Write on a found object.
Shine On
on trash day, walking the dogs -
the sun sparkled, metal glinted
and all that glittered was gold
with a pink square stone set tight
with a band slightly bent,
it lay in wait in the gutter...
finders keepers and all that...
and it actually fit, replacing that chip
of a broken promise ring he shipped
on the day he visited I let him assume
the ring was from you...
and all that glittered was golden
when he rode off into the sunset
without me, the wrong man - left
making way for true treasure
finders keepers and all that...
lucky me to find you; we found each
other; that much is true
on a whim, I had that ring fixed
the appraised value wasn’t much
and all that glittered was golden, honey
with each passing anniversary, we see
laugh lines increase as our own
hearts still jump and flutter...
