Electric Connections?            A flash fiction-haibun  1.23

There is a feeling of sanctuary when visiting national historical places...

Even when they are in big cities. Penelope was weaving her way from

the west coast to the east. She had hoped beyond measure that Grant

would wait for her. He wasn't quite sure why she wanted to do this trip

alone. But he had let her go. Vowing to welcome her with open arms -

Penny promised she’s come back. She just needed to spread her wings

and be an independent butterfly for a while. She wanted to make it to

Yosemite to visit the geysers. She was stopping in Philadelphia, PA too.  

Penny didn't really want to spend a whole lot of time in museums. She

wanted to take in the architecture and the exterior monuments. Being a

fiber artist she liked to see how patterns related to each other in different

mediums. And was overjoyed with the statute of Benjamin Franklin. The

metal work was extremely unique. The vest and overcoat were covered

with what looked like real keys. And they were laid in an intricate pattern.

She especially liked the circular motion created around one of the vest

buttons. Which brought her thoughts to the weaving of myths. And how

it was a bit ironic that it was she who was traveling in her own odyssey.

Note: I first saw Tux Duck at least ten if not twenty years ago.

Some years I don’t see him at all. But I always smile when I see him..

I know which one I think should be the ‘moment in time’ but to me... I like them all.

around five o’clock

swam companionably

tux duck did with friends

even in winter, there

they swim in the creek, the ducks

saw them heading south

black and white the duck

amid mallards, hens and chicks

still around; tux duck

tux duck is all black

except for his white bow tie

stands out in the flock

wintering ducks swim

Puppy love who is to say it isn’t true?

Rover moved over - made room for Jill

Jack never did look back

They married, had children

Rover’s pup Rufus accepted a cat companion.

Jack and Jill retired to Boca.

Where they both ride around

in their red convertible on the days

when their families aren’t visiting.
