CD: 550 beggar

hatsu yuki ya asaebisu suru kado kojiki

first snowfall--
early morning at my gate
a beggar

by Issa

beggar's bowl,
chased by the autumn wind,
enters the temple

© Chèvrefeuille

children beg for time...

children beg for time
to play; parents for memory
to stay clear as day

seasons cycle autumn falls -
brings cool air to kiss our face

the homeless layer
their holy garments tighter
accepting your alms

(...as I understand a renga: 5,7,5 - 7,7 - 5,7,5)

haiku shuukan : 20 tears

by Khalil Gibran on 'tears'.

[...] "There must be something strangely sacred in salt.
It is in our tears and in the sea". [...]

with tears in my eyes
I see how the wind is ruining
fragile beauty

a gust of wind tears apart

CD : 546 silence

[...] "I have learned silence from the talkative,
toleration from the intolerant, and kindness from the unkind;
yet strange, I am ungrateful to these teachers". [...]  Khalil

the babbling brook
makes me drowsy and happy -
a late summer night

© Chèvrefeuille

1
under green shade; birds
dine at the new feeder as
late summer wind rests
2
though they were quiet
now they are gone, turtles find
a new loving home
3
disease requires
rest - the body actively
heals itself quietly

1. viewed from the window - at the feeder, eating birds do not sing.
2. The turtles I was ‘babysitting’ have found a new home.
3. hubby is quiet as he rests his head...
From all of these things, I learn acceptance of what is, was and will be.

sacrificed his own health for
future forfeited

sacrificed his own health for
there, father faltered

held safely in grama’s arms
her little finger pointed

would her dreams take flight
through pines, willow, maples and
the small white flowers

CD : 542 : tapestry

threadbare new skin, now
draped with knowledge, blessed by
your silken laughter

the loom, warp, weft and shuttle
create life’s grand tapestry

your silken laughter
gently twists with my own - we
are fully addressed

down all our dead branches; Yet it sends
our living roots deeper into the living heart
of the living earth". [...] Khalil Gibran
