vicinity, vicnity, vicinity : for Miz Q

vicinity, vicinity, vicinity

the foaming ocean under the sky
with the sun almost overhead at noon...
umbrellas, open and too those closed -
for rent - look small to the parasailer
though the seagulls look for
unattended lunch or free popcorn
from tourist lining the shore

after a short stroll on the boardwalk,
greenbacks are exchanged for bing cherry
and espresso bean coffee ice cream
as we escape getting our skin tanned -
I return to cooler air on our fifth floor balcony
now shaded as the sun heads west -
bottle caps for water bottles look like white dots

here at this ocean sea side resort some older
buildings are still low in their profile and I can
see read and white flowers planted in patio
boxes of the rentals that are at ground level -
those folks need to go to the concrete break-
wall in order to see the incoming tide, those
brilliant waves under the sun, cutting the sea

An Arrangement

An Arrangement

There is both a joy and an inherent
sadness when I turn from my chore
down at the creek attempting to clean
debris that catches in the crooked arm
of the fallen tree...

to see about fifty or is it one hundred feet
south a single heron - knowing that there
was a pair over twenty years ago... that
together scouted this secure hideaway

for the abundance of fish...after the growth
of the season made it nigh impossible for
the fisherfolk with rods and reels to attempt
to secure even just a tad of its bounty

I speak calming words, unknown sounds
to the grace and grey-blue bird - and I nod,
bow, and say thank you for sharing this space,
this moment however brief - stay let us be...

each others’ witness to something that
we do not understand, and yet do -
life is a treasure, we exist to co-exist
I have to hope and believe that is true.

Impressive : (dual prompts for Miz Q and The Sunday Whirl)

If I remember I will add the Sunday Wordle link for 119 tomorrow, because I used the wordle list
for this piece.

Impressive

when some memories are
revisited we watch from the
distance like crows eyeing
scarce valuable vegetation -

that we believe will provide
strength - perhaps it is best
though at times to let those
misshapen cells that we thought
were so firmly rooted,
untangle and become eroded
with the rain of our tears
let those frayed threads

which once we wove with great
angst of false importance vanish at
last, and let the present, the true good
moment of now, be our *breadth.

let us live wholeheartedly
with conviction to spread joy,
aid those with less fortune -
and be grateful for every breath.

Memories should tug at
but not control our emotional
well being - listen to the music
of the land and the living.

*breadth = 3. freedom from narrowness or restraint; liberality: a person with great breadth of view.

Fiddle Me This : For Miz Q

http://imprompt.wordpress.com/2013/07/25/da-do-ron-ron-ron/

or go with anaphora or epistrophe or...see the prompt!

Fiddle Me This!

Wack! Attack! Slap! Swat! Slam! Bam!...
Done the job, thank you ma’am
Hammer the nail from dawn ‘til dusk
Come here Mama, smell my musk

Wack! Attack! Slap! Swat! Slam! Bam!...
Let me be your new roof, says I
Let me show you my skill
Let me show you how I can drill

Wack! Attack! Slap! Swat! Slam! Bam!...
I’m usin’ all my natural talents
while baking in the heat of the sun
from a hard day’s work - I’ll not run

Wack! Attack! Slap! Swat! Slam! Bam!...
dang those mosquitoes the ones that buzz
and the silent missus too - blinkin’ my eye
dripping sweat, looking forward to the night’s sky

Wack! Attack! Slap! Swat! Slam! Bam!...
Bechta you’d be good at foot stompin’
in the barn when the caller shouts ‘Promenade!’
Aww honey, can you bring me a lemonade -

Wack! Attack! Slap! Swat! Slam! Bam!...
and to when the work day is complete
I’ll lay down my hammer with ‘nary a peep
my energy spent, in your arms I’ll sleep

Wack! Attack! Slap! Swat! Slam! Bam!...
Done the job, thank you ma’am
Hammer the nail from dawn ‘til dusk
Come here Mama, smell my musk

Sunken Treasure : A kaleidoscop poem for WWP 167

http://wewritepoems.wordpress.com/2013/07/25/prompt-167/

kaleidoscope poem...

Sunken Treasure?

salt emotions, the tears of joy
from the sea that takes away
that which we love

but thankfully on ebbing tides
eventually returns that which
we think belongs just to us

while apart twisting our dream visions
we have to *sally forth perhaps, soldier on
in our uniform disguise

trying to remember just what was the point
to the separation - was it to become
a hero waving democracy

only to be thwarted by disease - and
all the other lies that were never voiced
once death called

the love once thought to be forever
landed squarely, thickly as wooden chips,
that weight - was on your shoulders

perhaps we can tell them ...when they
arrive...that counted years mean nothing
and we are indeed together again...

©JP/davh

*sally forth = verb; set out in a sudden, energetic or violent manner
Note: early death prevented love to blossom. If we can believe that
the dead can meet ... then perhaps this couple is together again?

Beaten! : for Miz Q

http://imprompt.wordpress.com/2013/07/24/another-sinner-or-two/

Your challenge is to write a poem with a strong beat.  Or to revise a previously written piece, giving it an almost percussive quality.

A cinquain forward and backwards:

Beaten!

Wack! Attack!
Slap! Swat! Slam! Bam!...
The seasons best are besting me!
Following their own beat and rhythm; Munch, crunch!
Blood suckers!

Blood suckers!
Mostly mosquitoes thinking I’m a really sweet treat
Going for my smoothie banana breath
I’m going hide inside -
Attack! Wack!

So maybe this isn’t what Miz Q had in mind. Though I really enjoyed listening to The Seekers.

Much More Than Muzak : for Miz Q

Have a listen to this Miz Q prompt :)

Much More Than Muzak

As fast as a racing train my heart
rhythm joins keys skillfully hammered
the pounding of tunt stretched skin and
tympanic touches - remembering
crashing on the skylight and the
thunder announcing, demanding attention
of the weather change

I want to get up and run as far and as fast
as I can - away from yesterdays’ news
the words that say there are limits.
While we know there is that stop sign looming
and eventually we will all end up
either buried or as ashes...I reason that
death is not really cruel - just the waiting

Flip the coin, rejoice and celebrate
with every new birth, boys and girls -
as they wake to illuminated days to see
the loving faces of their families - balance
them in your arms and on your hips, dance
to glories - advantages, hours, fresh apples.
Find excuses to embrace time and live.

Concret Confrontation : for Miz Q

Please see the photo in the link for my inspiration to:

Concret Confrontation

I thought I would never have to see them again
and yet there - disturbing my walk through the park
on holiday - stiff and uncommunicative, there they were

I could only stop momentary I didn’t want to get caught
under their stony stare spell of righteous indignation -
“There is only one way to do anything - the rules we have made”

At least I knew where they were now, after I had been able
to escape and add color to my own life. The distance I had put
between us allowed me to live... them to fade from my life.

There are no words that can be cut into stone that can
order anyone. Even if you could see the beauty in the depth
of the carving, the artistry in the curve of the letters...

Once you trap something and demand that only one
road can be taken, only one view can be honored,
that there is only one right way - you have sealed yourself off

From all the other beauty, imagination and interpretation
that can and does exist. I did admire the artist - they had
captured them so well, stiff and rigid, a bit fearful yet mute.

Though I could not see their statuesque lips moving I had heard
them so often I could hear their fire and brimstone speeches -
enough was enough. I bid them adieu and walked away.

Oasis of an Inkling

Oasis of an Inkling

It seems as each month passes,
even with its countable blessings
there are more dark anniversaries

While I remember your birthday
yesterday, it is just an occasion
to remember that you are not here

to witness and partake in the newest
life that adds to your, our family tree...
so I recall - you are not here...

and that yesterday brought more less
enchanting news - the reviews of
test results, seeking more tests

which may result in another loss
however that undetermined blob or
blot decides to progress in an elder.

The mail also delivered the overdressed
proclamation of giving birth and death dates
of a great aunt who...passed.

Though not coherent in later years -
almost reached the century mark.
So I ask, when do we really die?

Is it when spiritual essence ascends -
if that is what one would like to believe,
or is it more of a slow progression...

The bits of scab and dead skin that
flitters off as we toss and turn
while traveling through dreams?
