Miz Q 9: Green & White

Week Two PROMPT NINE:COLOR, NOW

Look around you. Write down the first color you notice, and the second. That is the title of your poem. Write about yourself as a child, and use those two colors as a point of reference.
Green & White
Didn’t know
back then
that one
could be
so naive....

as to think
trust was given,
always and all ways.

That’s what pure innocence is;
believing in those who are your elders.
Or first loves. Not the playmates that elude you.
Or the siblings that excluded you or even the cousins that were rude to you

But the parents; the ones who trusted their own parents and then got sick.
And died. The remaining one remarried to the wicked stepmother
or the younger chippy after divorces
forces moves to more unfamiliar

places that repeatedly take
and takeaway confidence
until thinking blinks

brightly on
and now
that one
you are
is stable.

The green around the gills and the white of innocence and purity

  1. Not as green as you're cabbage looking, are you?

  2. You've told a sad story with your words, Jules. Loved the reference to your color choices: "The green around the gills and the white of innocence and purity."
Your day is starting out green, still dismal brown here. I'm longing for green.

  3. This is a stunning looking poem. I like the content too but am finding the appearance mesmerising.

  4. Jules, the content of this poem works well with the subject matter. Very effective piece of writing.

  5. Am with Margo on this one, Jules. The structure really emphasizes the stretch over time and thinking. How we change, are stretched and rearranged by living every day. You reached deep for this one, and did well,
