CD : 481 : helpful - presence

presence

with all senses do
what in your heart is true and
know justice follows

see beyond, hear depth, touch hearts
smell kindness, taste victory

know justice listens
to what is in your true heart
do with senses all

CD : 479 greed :brief escape?

brief escape?

loss of memory
she forgot to telephone
her girls - family

greedy for companionship
she visits her cousins, now

but will probably
when she returns home - forget
that she went away

©JP/davh

(Note: The tragedy of losing short term
memory and living in a retirement
community away from one's children.
Wanting so much to be with any family -
she forgot to tell us - her children, that
she was going. Now we know.)

renga: fowl play

transformation: cut
colored glass, pieced together
enlightens the soul

even the mock peacock there
in my window brings me joy

imagining flight
whenever the sight catches
and takes away breath

I enjoy the 'play'. And so I will.

wild?

mother’s pull their hair
when children disobey them
what is there to do?

some boys can be sent away -
some girls locked up in their rooms

father’s rent their shirts
yet there are occasions when
prodigals return

some boys become better men
some girls mother’s to their own

what is there to do
when children disobey us -
parents who have grown...

CD : LO 11 : Tilus

Tilus [tee-loo-hz] is a form created by Kelvin S.M. and falls under the category of micro poetry. The form is divided into two parts: the first part is composed of two lines following a 6-3 syllable
count; the second part, a one-syllable word to close and/or complete the subject layered in the first part.

CD : 476 creation

Popol-Vuh (Mayan Mythology, Creation story)

exchange rates

universal starts
create; something from nothing
to hear human voice

parent and children; being
aware; dare to make changes

trading chants and dreams
for clothes, homes and chariots
can the lost be found?

modern changes rearrange
who, how, what, where we believe

why some disappear
or capture our hearts and souls
when will we see truth?

(My first home with my husband
was owned by an elderly couple.
Though the property was small -
it was full of flowers in most every
season under her care...they had
lived there for almost eighty years.
After she passed - he chose to sell -

I do not know if they had children...)

an American sentence:

Hoops I would go through just for you...even though...I cannot jump.

sport, sometimes, often
with a ball, sometimes a sphere -
I watch golf with you

and draw penguins on golf balls
so you can make them fly high

or down an alley
we might bowl, your average
is higher than mine

we both remember concrete
jungles, in our cities fair -

rooting for the Mets
fans for life, at a distance
they’re our baseball team!

with natural truth make up

CD : Distillation 8 : J McCrae

It took me a few moments to find this piece already written about John McCrae’s Flanders Field.
The haiku is at the end of this haibun - While I believe only a haiku was sought I choose not to separate it from the haibun. This piece was inspired by the prompt from ‘Imprompt’. Which has a
lithograph from the war entitled “A YMCA Cellar in Flanders”. To see the poster please click the Imprompt link:

a haibun:
Too Many Poppies

Widowed and childless, those things hadn’t stopped her -
from teaching children or collecting books.
Failing eyesight, though made it impossible now for
Clara to enjoy her books...

Dear Mr. John McCrae,

I am a retired widow living now at the Goodwin boarding home
for Elders. The paper is read to us each morning by those with better
sight than mine. I understand you are working with the local YMCA in
preserving as well as procuring supplies. I have in the basement several
boxes of books that I believe would be useful for the shelter.

Please do come and pick them up at your earliest convenience. And
do join me for tea.

Respectfully, Mrs. C. Greenhorn

And so Mr. McCrae met with Mrs. Greenhorn.
Acquired several boxes of books, after having tea.
John made sure the artist included a the wall of books
in the sketch he was drawing for the YMCA cellar poster.
