10.31 CD 594 ...shifting...

10.31 ...shifting...

sky pages
constellations stories
shifting stars

time zones
morning rises; dusk lengthens
shifting time,

bird wing
tree leaf falls
candle flames dance

cotton contrails
metal birds defy gravity
over the plains

low clouds
mystify the horizon
hides the deer

10.24 Rail Rider (a haibun) CD 588

a haibun: Rail Rider

I used to ride two different trains everyday
first from one state to another
and then to my destination

there is a different feeling being in an underground city
protected from the weather
everything there at your fingertips

well maybe...there are also the strangers
the ones that stay at stationary positions, who work there
and the seemingly uncountable flocks of people

there is the express and the local
the symphony of the inner workings of a clock
the schedules to be kept and the waiting

sometimes you get a seat and sometimes you stand
sometimes you grip a pole or a hanging hand rail
sometimes you can walk from car to car to car

I have a token somewhere that used to be able to
grant me access into that underground city
where one just was mostly just another traveler

I haven’t had to commute in years
though I have taken different trains upon occasion
there is a dream like quality to riding the rails

simple successes
arriving safely; to, from
places on a map

(theirs)
river stones
caressed by flowing water
pale moon shines                                        (Becca Givens)

the sound of a waterfall
makes the night more silent                        (Chèvrefeuille)

(theirs)
river stones
caressed by flowing water
pale moon shines                                                        (Becca Givens)

behind a thin veil of clouds
she, the one I love, smiles at me                                (Chèvrefeuille)

10.19 CD Stars 10: tea

10.19 ...one thousand coats...

little black box shines
because of the lacquer made
by little berries

one thousand coats protect the
carefully hand painted box

©JP/dh

The resins of certain species native to Japan,
China and other Asian countries, such as lacquer
tree (T. vernicifluum) and wax tree (T. succedaneum),
are used to make lacquer, and, as a byproduct of lacquer

manufacture, their berries are used to make japan wax.

10.18 CD 584 The Milky Way...rural sky...

10.18 ...rural sky...

more than a ribbon -
highway across rural sky
New York State of mind

©JP/dh

Note:
I had always seen the Milky Way
in books, in planetariums or TV.
But for a September wedding in
New York’s upstate, about 20 years
ago I saw that wondrous highway.
The breadth and width is amazing

without light pollution.

10.17 CD LC 9 : ...a trio of arachnids...

10.17  ...a trio of arachnids...

careful hunter dwells
in the midst of tented webs
vibrations tell tales

mother wore a black
cloak: a red hourglass on its
back... merry widow

tiny venomous
little thing with three pairs of
eyes...is rather shy

©JP/dh

Note: Some spiders make tents, some Black Widows
do have marking on their back but usually the red hourglass

is on the underside, and the brown recluse would rather be left alone.

10.15 CD GW 29 ...rock and roll

CD GH -29-pop-culture

10.15...rock and roll...

John, Paul, George, Ringo
they were more than just beetles
they were The Beatles

a great big bother that ought
to be swatted - rock and roll

sure they grew up too
left an iconic sound wave
still reverberates

©JP/dh

Note: I grew up as a misfit of the 1960’s -
I may not know much about music.
The Beatles may not have been enjoyed
by some elders of the time, but their
early stuff, especially for me was easy

to listen to and just plain fun.

10.14 CD inner beauty: ...fragile ego...

From our host:

smiling geisha
hides her beauty behind a fan
and her white face

her white face
the rule for her class of beauty -
no Inner Beauty

© Chèvrefeuille

...fragile ego...

ink within the pen
graphite within the pencil
exposed on paper

thoughts like a river flowing
others’ eyes may rest elsewhere,

missing the life spill
a poets fragile ego
unseen inklings hide

others’ eyes may rest elsewhere,
strategic walls built so high

exposed on paper
emotions; stones without moss
continue to roll
