Concret Confrontation
I thought I would never have to see them again
and yet there - disturbing my walk through the park
on holiday - stiff and uncommunicative, there they were
I could only stop momentary I didn’t want to get caught
under their stony stare spell of righteous indignation -
“There is only one way to do anything - the rules we have made”
At least I knew where they were now, after I had been able
to escape and add color to my own life. The distance I had put
between us allowed me to live... them to fade from my life.
There are no words that can be cut into stone that can
order anyone. Even if you could see the beauty in the depth
of the carving, the artistry in the curve of the letters...
Once you trap something and demand that only one
road can be taken, only one view can be honored,
that there is only one right way - you have sealed yourself off
From all the other beauty, imagination and interpretation
that can and does exist. I did admire the artist - they had
captured them so well, stiff and rigid, a bit fearful yet mute.
Though I could not see their statuesque lips moving I had heard
them so often I could hear their fire and brimstone speeches -
enough was enough. I bid them adieu and walked away.
