An Arrangement
There is both a joy and an inherent
sadness when I turn from my chore
down at the creek attempting to clean
debris that catches in the crooked arm
of the fallen tree...
to see about fifty or is it one hundred feet
south a single heron - knowing that there
was a pair over twenty years ago... that
together scouted this secure hideaway
for the abundance of fish...after the growth
of the season made it nigh impossible for
the fisherfolk with rods and reels to attempt
to secure even just a tad of its bounty
I speak calming words, unknown sounds
to the grace and grey-blue bird - and I nod,
bow, and say thank you for sharing this space,
this moment however brief - stay let us be...
each others’ witness to something that
we do not understand, and yet do -
life is a treasure, we exist to co-exist
I have to hope and believe that is true.
