giddy grasshopper
take care...do not leap and crush
these pearls of dewdrop

underneath the helmet
a cricket chirping.

deep silence
this lazy summer evening -
song of a cricket

Top hat and spats; Jimminy
sound of a conscious

on the hearth, lucky? -
that solemn song longing to
dance upon the grass

a full complement
plays; stringless violins of
summer nights’ crickets

    I never understood how having a cricket in the house was lucky ... very unlucky for the cricket ...like having a "lucky" rabbit's foot!
