a haibun: Lyrical?

OK I really don’t think I can be bought or sold but the first thing I thought of was

Madonna... and maybe I’ve got too much *material? Though most of it has

sentimental value - Like the photo of me scowl faced when I was three

dressed in the traditional new nighties and robe holding hands with a plastic

doll as big as me. While the doll has long since gone, to where I couldn’t say -

I wonder if at that point I wondered where the real-life touch

of my mother had gone.

There are a few things I brought into the marriage - Besides the gifts from

the bridal shower and wedding... Not a whole lot though because my family

had moved so many times I had wondered if we were hiding from the law

which in some respects turned out to be true... Someone had threatened

jail time to the auspicious breadwinner who held down several jobs to keep

up with the Jones’ While forgoing the forging of +family quality time so it wasn’t

as hard as it could have been when it was my time to go...

I began...following my own ^yellow bricked road filling up shelves with memorabilia;

went along some traditions and yet against the grain towards others; no one was

going to tell me how to raise my babies - Though I’d listen to it all, from those who

might have actually have had some value to those who knew absolutely nothing but

had opinions that they felt necessary to share anyway. I live in a home, not a house

and I don’t wear pearls, much less an apron in the kitchen.  I am a poet, was and

still am a wife, mama and friend.
