The unbalance of

SLAP!

An old trap in the abandoned
hermit’s cabin - their new refuge.
At least the eldest knew some survival skills.
What blessed animal deserves such actions? - First
the younger children let out huge gasps...but then the
cooked rabbit stew in their bellies, that tasted just fine.

Always a bit of pleasure to make up for the pain...
ReplyDeleteThere's that issue of balance again. Really liked your ending,
ReplyDeleteElizabeth
I get it. There is a story there. An adventure. I love the sense of momement, the sudden snap of the trap. :)
ReplyDeleteI've always said that if I'd have to do the hunting in order to eat, I'd be a vegan.
ReplyDeletewell done with your visually crafted words!
unbalance of the snare...I like that. Makes me want to know the taste of rabbit stew, too.
ReplyDeleteIt is not the cooking of meat, it is the conversion of bunny to food that is the problem. It may need hanging a bit while I think about it!
ReplyDeleteWhile I may not have any survival skills...I am presuming my character does and would correctly prepare said 'bunny'.
DeleteSurely if said 'bunny' were 'snagged' early enough in the day, there would be time to skin, gut and do what ever else needed to be done, including gathering wild onions and roots to add to said 'stew' later that evening or even the following day.
I'll have to google 'bunny' prep 101. Thanks.
mmmmmm..... sweet satisfaction. I refused rabbit on a family camping trip, due to the killing. But, I can see its beauty in hunger.
ReplyDeleteStill working your word magic. Great job Jules!
ReplyDeletenice. I like the story this evoked for me.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the others, Jules, there is an adventure story in the making here. Good one, though I refuse to eat rabbit, ;)
