9.20 chop, chop : cutting wood


9.20 chop, chop

once a younger man
could have done twice as much in
half the time... chop, chop.

he won’t let me use the chain
saw; sees safety first - he does

so I bow, and bow
that second ‘o’ is long and
takes me longer still

while useful; chainsaw
can run a muck, needs gas and
oil, ax is steady

tried to weld ax, I did...
just not strong enough - dame, I.

I rearrange the
wood which he chops, into piles
for the fireplace

chop, chop - the rhythm and rhyme
echoes fall into autumn
