dumb figures?

With inspirational thanks to the link...

dumb figures?

heartless yet poised
forever in the state of waiting
unknowing what it is to want

words could be rallied
round a protected matriarch
if she could only bare children

porcelain, nay plastic skin -
representing ageless beauty
manicured and coiffed

words could be rallied round
as the coins do not clink
sales to coffers, non existent

there is no traffic attracted
to the bare minimum of
passers by...for there are no

words to describe what isn’t
worn, what fashion house
could or should complain

that their eye-candy is not artfully
accessorised and displayed -
for economic growth?

Transformation : Miz Q : Workshop 1

Perhaps a non-traditional haibun?

Transformation

The breeze billowed disturbing the flag that marked our forested
home in the late afternoon the seasons identity was lost as leaves
landed on the small door pane - it was an incredibly cool break
from several days of unrelenting heat, while I alone...waiting
every day and then again every hour for my wanderer...

was I hobbit or
fairy between those pages
in the library

Blown away by the migration of evil - I clutched the wings of my
costume in front the hovel I imagined as home the late afternoon
I awaited rescue from the legendary noble my eyes glazed over
in day dreaming but I was a mere flyspeck waiting for time to jump
start or Mother to announce lunch was ready -

good books are like that
transporting you to other
times and strange places

Now looking back, reflecting - I understand that freedom of time
was an extravagance.  I rarely don makeup, but I can put my finger
to my lips and signal for quiet - when I want to be left alone... one
does not have to say a sharp word to their darlings when they have
an inkling to have some quiet time.

With the help of the online dictionary and thesaurus I chose six words for the list:
wind, waving, disguise, fabulous, glass, point, and hero. I first was careful to
‘transform’ my verse using selected words. But then as the story evolved I just
used the alternate words to speak where they were best suited. I used one
alternate for each word three times. Once in each paragraph stanza.

Family Time : For Miz Q

Fifth poem in the series; use 4 of the same words
for five poems.

(5) Family Time

I’ve gotten letters and postcards
from all over the world that point
to where you’ve been

Oran, Barcelona, Athens,
Istanbul, Leghorn, Cannes,
Lisbon and  and Naples too!

My guess is that being a Navy
wife during times of peace
was indeed a very lucky thing!

There will be no disguise my face
when I welcome you home, both
of my arms waving ecstatically

To welcome home my hero - my
helpmate and my husband. Now
your duty done, we can begin...

The four words that I have been using for the 5 poems in this series are:
disguise, hero, point and waving. I chose to use my mother’s voice for
these five poems, using the Port O’Call booklets my father collected
during his tour of duty in the Navy (in the mid 1950’s). Kind of apropos

as today I remember his birthday. And wish that he were still here...

Echoing Sentiments : for Miz Q

(4) Echoing Sentiments

Will your latest letter let me know
what country has its flag waving
for you today my Navy hero?

You tell me that there is a dish...
of food set before you in disguise -
but as often as one can change

the name; Paella a Valenciana -
just because you are in Spain,
it is after all just chicken and rice!

You tell me that you giggle
like a schoolboy on hearing some
of the nightclubs names;

You point out though that
you will not go to Casablanca,
Florida, Alcazar or Hollywood!

Kindred : WWP 166

“...a mirror breathing in all the borders of time...”

Kindred
There it is, that face, I’ve seen it before
Grandmother, father...mother, children too -
and yet it is my width and breath now -
that the reflection mimics in it’s opposite

The mousy brown hair that was once strawberry blond now
half a life's worth of white and silver emanating from those
roots out of the pate that holds both old and new ideals

There within my ear are the miniature hammers
gently tapping away at my eardrums - and that akward
variant of a march that I follow that moves
me forward as I preamble and promenade

The pair of eyes not brown or green
yet somewhere in between flecked with gold -
do I hold any treasures, would they be acceptable...

To that continuum timeline that pretends
to hold that which once was, while making room
for that which is and will be... unbound borders
merrily tripped upon as some perception allows...

How is it to be as I am? Old soul young at heart -
Presently wrapped up in the words that I sentence
to spend the rest of their days lined up on a page?

I have no answers, forthwith as I sally forth -
I am happy and would not trade what has transpired.
For all that was has made me whole - whichever
parts you will accept...

Home Away From Home? : for Miz Q

(same four words 3rd piece)

(3) Home Away From Home?

Oh how I wish I could join you at
your port in Italy  - though our families
came from point A and point B

When not in uniform you’ll
need no disguise to blend in
with the natives -as they say!

In the postcard you sent
colorful town flags are waving
from the harbor of Genoa, Italy

I visit my mother and we
make our own pasta asciutta -
we’ll eat dinner without you...

But when you come home, my hero
we’ll have a picnic +al fresco, esterno
of fried chicken and potato salad!

©JP/davh

*pasta asciutta = really covers a variety of pasta shapes
+translates to  = a cool, outside; though I think most
believe that al fresco could mean ‘outside’, or for the ‘Arts’
may have another meaning too...according to
the translator al fresco literally means ‘cool’.

Smooth Sailing : for Miz Q

(same four words 2nd piece)

(2) Smooth Sailing?

I look like I am in a disguise, hair
held up by my red paisley bandana -
I watch the clothes waving on the line

I point with my finger at the bird who has
left a ‘present’ on my washing - I make
a frowny face, and squeeze my eyes

I wonder what port o’call my hero
has pulled into today, the last post mark
was from Marseilles, France

While I think of his Old Spice
aftershave, I wonder if he’ll send
me home some perfume...

I am sure that my sailors’ letters are
sealed with one hundred and one kisses
just for me, his Navy wife.
