CD 400: Hatsumisakiji Temple 24

Kaeru is empty -
nature allows some mothers
freedom to not know

the exact breathe of offspring
frog friend rests in my pocket

freedom to not know
exactly what is around
the next bend, I walk

the exact breath of spring off
in the distance floral notes

the next bend, I stroll
listening to birds chatter
- filling my senses

(the last two verses are late additions...)

CD 77 Santiago / St. James

kaeru grows wider, fat
dining on hand fed lotus
a pond offers relief

we are all children seeking
the rebirth of every day

a pond offers relief
and a place to lay her eggs
under calm clear sky

CD 398 Jorakuji Temple 14

return to the path
the journey is our focus
kaeru rides I walk
*
all things are cycles, seasons,
lives, even the universe
*
kaeru rides I walk
remembering the way home
is the excursion

CD 397 Shozanji Temple 12

chants end brings quiet
my eyes open, the flower
only holds white petals

heaviness weighs in my heart
where has kaeru bounded to?

white petals held hope -
frog hops on my foot, looks up
expecting calm care

relief cools and fills my heart
kaeru teaches emptiness

is temporary
but necessary for growth -
quietly I chant

CD 395 Kirihataji Temple 10

I believe for now
kaeru has adopted me
wise green guide rides free

we hear clear waters flowing
whispering over moss stones

wise green guide rides free
listens while I attempt to
interpret our dreams
