CD : 405 : Zenjibuji Temple 32

enjoying this road -
seasons will arrive and change
frogs burrow in mud

to run from danger, escape
the harsh howling winter wind

frogs burrow in mud -
kaeru sleeps in the pocket
near my pilgrim heart

CD Special 78 St. James

a deck is spread there -
secrets in a humble stack
truth unfolds slowly

kaeru hops on the child’s
game - laughter harmonizes

truth unfolds slowly
as a frog kisses the queen
of hearts two faces

often we only see one
side of nature reflected

we shield sensitive
hearts seeking the hidden truth
fearing the worst news

forgetting the silent prayer
of the speechless animals

fearing the worst news
kaeru just croaks, pips and chirps;
magical music

CD 404 Chikurinji Temple 31

with a joyful hop
another arrival begs
a new simple chant

kaeru courageously sings
of love lost and found in sound

a new simple chant
reflecting unseen rainbows
coloring the world

CD : 403: Zenrakuji Temple 30

in the dawning light
the temple guard dogs greet us
soft growls resonate

as if harmonizing chant
calling the soul sun within

soft growls resonate
kaeru blinks at the stone eyes
seeing the depth there

in the living carved stone guards
where some might see ghosts of life

seeing the depth there
imagining one long breath
as I hold my own

CD 402 Kokobunji Temple 29

imagining you
kaeru, friend as Green Tara,
you protecting me

who, what else rests in your soul
infinite voiceless lessons

you protecting me
I cradle you, childlike -
I learn compassion

CD 401 Kongochji Temple 26

after a full day
tired, my muscles aching
kaeru expects care

green friend favors her limp leg
slow to heal or just cautious

kaeru expects care
speaks with her blinking wide eyes
I forget myself

stone Medicine Buddha sits
with carved eyes meditating

I forget myself
happily tending to my
little amphibian

who continues to bring luck
for us, a pair of pilgrims

little amphibian
resting in my hand, I sigh
after a full day
