We Write Poems 111
Bedazzled
For so many years
I wanted to trade in my name
Common for its’ era
Even the nick-name
Tried alternate spellings to break the spell
Challenged with ferocity
The spelling and pronunciation
The addition of letters that
Weren’t there to begin with
Even when grandparents used them
Few people could get away with
Calling me by my full given name
Why I allowed any deviation
Was a mystery I have yet to solve
Then I started using my initials, even on checks
Perhaps to balance out
That unjustified prejudice between the sexes
The one that state there are roles to play
And you have to use Mr., Master, Mrs., Miss, or Ms.
So I just chose to use none of the above
And now I use a nom-de-plume
An awkward feather in my cap?
Perhaps it is my love of fantasy-
Wanting to be a known unknown
Not wishing to be ‘spelled’ …
Process notes: This one was easy - for me. Wrote it the day of or after the prompt came out. The word 'spell', hidden, and name(s) all fascinating aspects of writing and personal natures.

Trifecta Challenge: Baum's Oz
Baum’s Oz
Silver slippers
So says the book
With flying monkeys
golden brick road
a girl with a bump on her head
and a dog in her basket
courage, heart, and compassion
seen through green colored lenses
http://www.trifectawritingchallenge.com/2012/06/trifextra-week-twenty-two.html
While visiting Rosemary Mint...I found this prompt -
Rewrite your favorite book in 33 words. While it said it was still open...by at least 24 hours, the link was closed.
No matter I still had fun...

Sunday Whirl 62, Crust (#2)
Crust
He so loved the heels of buttered bread
With his jasmine tea...her favorite brew
The rest of the ample loaf could be used for
any and everything else - toss it in the yard
Feed those demons - those black crackles and crows
Who clustered ‘round her granite tomb
His life now flawed, his domain forever in sunset
Only to be dispelled briefly by soulful train whistles
Heard from the window that seemed to be but a scrap in the wall
That held the montage of her expressive photographed faces
While others might not like how he chose to live -
He did not consider himself trapped...
(My first attempt at the Whirl list combined with Rosemary Mint's Midweek Melting can be found:
http://julesgemsandstuff.blogspot.com/2012/06/sw-62-rm-mm-3-just-peachy.html
jasmine, demons, window, scrap, ample, montage, flawed, granite, trapped, whistle, domain, sunset
http://sundaywhirl.wordpress.com/2012/06/24/wordle-62/
Process notes: Believe what you will...while waiting to go to the In-laws for dinner, I snitched the heel of a loaf of tomato basil bread that we are taking along with that peach pie... and while sitting in my rocker, (perhaps off of it?) I thought of that first line...And I didn’t even finish the slice until I was halfway through typing...

SW 62, RM MM 3: Just Peachy?
Just Peachy?
Johannah did not like the montage of demons that haunted her dreams
Waking to the sunset after a nap - the ample jasmine that surrounded her
Window did not seem the slightest bit flawed in this domain that seemed to
Sparkle under its’ new found freedom
She needed to maintain a granite composure in order not to feel trapped
Scrapping the last bit of her foul mood from fogged sleep vision
It was time to whistle as she made her way to visit Booker her steed
Who loved the grooms attentiveness
Perhaps a quick ride in the orchard before dinner would be wise
There was still ample radiation from the sun, she would ask the kind
Groom which path would be a good one to take in this honeyed sky
Listening to just the sounds of her heart...
She might be able to subtract what ever falseness might be lurking -
Was the relief here just paper thin? There had to be a hidden art
Knowing what was truth - if only she could talk to pixies - they were real,
If one believed in wizards - pixies had to be real
And not just viewed after downing large quantities of a absinthe -
Jo knew better than to over indulge in that regard!
Always, always keep your wits about you, only way to control
Your sword - her father had said.

Quotes, Wisdom, Interjection = Conversation
1*Insanity is hereditary you can get it from your children

don’t be too bitter, or they will spit you out +
“So what’s another year, we only age for other people right,” she asks?
“As long as I don’t buy you a beef dinner for our anniversary,” he says
As the ‘joke’ is over thirty years old - she nods in agreement...
3*A hospital bed is a parked taxi with the meter running
Life is the greatest bargain; we get it for nothing +
The grandson calls that building ‘The doctors house’ - we should be lucky only to visit...
4*Wit has truth in it; wisecracking is simply calisthenics with with words
Better to make a good wish for yourself than a bad wish for another +
Poetic words on paper are delicate lace - your whispered ‘I love you’ is pure gold
5*I can never remember being afraid of an audience.
If the audience could do better, they’d be up here on stage and
I’d be out there watching them.
What the eye doesn’t see, the heart doesn’t know +
I say occasionally, “They like me.” He says, “I love you always”
We see eye to eye.

Rosemary Mint Word List; An Interesting Twist
An Interesting Twist
The field of wheat to the east was soon covered by an enormous flock of birds
Ballooning to cover the sky this was not usual - the puff of white clouds in the blue sky
Soon became a black sea - the sheep in my care were not amused and bleated
In distress, I didn’t have enough apple pieces to appease them all
The make shift rail of my corral was soon toppled as we all fought for safety
I tripped over an errant porcupine and twisted my ankle - thankfully I could use
My ram friend to help carry my weight back to the stone paddock
Would the sun ever return?
My old friend the wrinkled cook ran to greet me as she pointed to the trailing end
Of the flock...we watched as the birds passed overhead...in their trail there was a hum,
Like a gentle bee buzzing and an unexplainable aura that seemed to replace our
Dread with an amazing calm
A minor squire came running to our aid shouting with glee
“The Princess has woken! The spell has been broken!”
Not knowing who I really was - he picked me up and twirled me around -
My elder sister was awake!
Cookie instructed Albert to carry me gently into the big kitchen -
The omelet she had been cooking for lunch had fried, but not yet caught fire
Albert babbled like a schoolgirl - The mute lad sang, the mute lad saved us!
I, Morganna could finally wash my face and hair!

Sunday Whirl #61 Making Connections
Making Connections
Being small chested would help Jo blend in during her current
Mode of expatriate escaping from the fickle tempers of her half-sibling
And her soldier skills would allow for quick effective striking
If she needed to refrain unwarranted advances
A month had passed since the death of her mother using the saber
That her own father a renowned smyth had made for her - she could trace
Her etched name on the blade she was hesitant to crack, as she had no spare
The new queen, her sister Regina was the murderess
While Jo tried to stay off the main roads, she did occasionally sup at the local tavern
She would let the stable hands give a good groom to her roan, Booker
Not trusting the latches of doors or windows of these places seemed to be less and
Less of an issue, for merriment and celebration ruled
Several nights at different locations she had heard a string of tales
While attempting to be sociable and imbibing in the local draft
It seems a young lad who had pretended to be mute - sang in clear full voice
A spell that freed a distant kingdom from its ills
The tale was told of the awful racket that was created when out of
The Wizards tower windows thousands of birds flew to freedom releasing
All of the wicked spells that had almost killed the spirit of every living thing there
She had found her new destination
I've attempted to put the 5 pieces of this story in one place for ease of reading
