WWP 109 Pearly?

WWP Finding Pearls... 109
Pearly?
I lifted the latch again and pushed

why is there a gate?
I felt as though I was hanging in the balance
if justice is blind then why be judged at all?
I step over and trip over something.
~
I will go and visit Tygar
that’s what his name tag says
I stared at him with wide eyes
there is an implied ‘everyone expects St. Peter’
I urged him silently.
~
I stand and listen.
standard, standard, standard
~
I couldn’t help myself.
guilt perhaps - to correct misdeeds?
I’ve just signed a contract
just how long is a millenium...
I nodded wordlessly
~
I’ve got wings now
the halo comes a little later
I wondered how long it would take
at least my soul is safe
I was relieved about that as well.

The ‘pearls’ were taken from the book ‘Dragonscale Leggings’ by Freya Pickard.
My additional lines are in italics... Just because I can’t leave well enough alone...

Looks like I actually did it 'write' I didn't realize it wasn't a true 'Cento'.JP/davh June 13,  2012

Sunday Whirl #60 Maiden Voyage?

Maiden Voyage?

Regina had used my saber - She had wanted nothing to trace her deed
Back to her own hand and for that plus my own cunning, I was granted my freedom
I would not witness how she used my blade to nail our mother’s fate -
A stain that will forever blacken my spirit

What excuses, bluffs, she would use to brush or explain the old woman’s death
Will remain haunting shadows - for surely if I am not there she could
Easily blame me, but I have a lock my half siblings hair and some finger nail clippings
Buried in separate vessels under a young willow (in another town)

I could take these bits to the mage and spell the vain and pompous woman with heavy age
This was my leverage - I threatened back that I would make her crawl, be cripple and dine
On stones If she refused to grant me passage through the Corona Gate at midnight
With her new pennant as a guarantee of safe egress

Once passed the gate I forced my steed at full gallop under a waning moon
After we crossed the river and tossed her bloodied rag, did I feel marginally safer
My trembling heart once a swift drum beat slowed to the pace of my horse -
Which I finally allowed to walk after such a long and stressful press...

If I ever lose the strength and companionship of my great roan, Booker
I will continue to crawl through mud, run through fire, even jump from high cliffs
To distance myself from the rising evil that was birthed the day Regina was born -
There just has to be something better - I can hope can’t I?

Monday Melting #20 Journeyman Woman?

Journeyman Woman?
The lines were drawn in the dew of morning
And hers was not the signature on the edict
Proclaiming her sisters’ name to be eponymous
Throughout the land -

So her elder sister Regina shared their mother’s iconic profile
That was simply due to the chance and gel of the husband de jour
The current warriors would soon find out that while their seemingly feminine
Leader chose to wear pastel tulle...

That the new queen had a hidden hunger and tenacity
That could and would easily flick each man like a
Set domino that once toppled might not be uprighted
For a very long time -

There was no longer time for mourning
The passing of  mother - who would suspect her death was planned?
No time to clean off the kohl that smudged her eyes from wiping tears
Johannah mounted her steed...

There were enough pawns for Regina to push around
She cleaned her saber and tossed the blood soiled pennant
Into the middle of the swift river that she was crossing
A new life waited somewhere else

*Process notes: While I haven’t seen the new movie(s) based on the fairy tale of the moment...animated or otherwise...I think there may have been just a tad of an influence - and well all the words seemed to fit. I’m also reading a book where the dragon slayer is a woman! You might also enjoy... ‘Dragonscale Leggings’ by Freya Pickard

WWP prompt # 108: Countenance

Countenance

Have you seen The Mona Lisa?
Mystery abounds with each artistic brush stroke

We share many secrets she and I
Hers on canvas, mine in a mirror

They say on can read the soul through eyes...
While the iris provides variety of color -

The pupil is both the student and the teacher
following the path of smile lines from ear to ear

With each artistic flare of recorded word
There is something concrete, perhaps a treasure

Enjoy the laughter that we will share of guessing at
The meaning of what could just have been a simple smile

We share many secrets, Miss Mona Lisa and I
Perhaps we had the same masterful artist paint our essence?

Whirl 59 - Freed Spirit

Freed Spirit

idea burst, pierces
draw, crumble
crouch, beat brow, chisel

then glow with sweet sweat
split decisions crash
marble shards fly, fall

bruised ego sighs
stand still - rest
then edge her last curl

Process Notes: This list, at least to me lent itself to the sculptor - I just carved the words. This is a series of Robert Kelly Lune. For more info on the short lune form please go here:

Waiting...Rosemary midweek melting #2

Waiting...

At the nape of the remote creek
the huge stone was a knot in the flow
marking a hidden lock to a sacred chest,
over which the water seems to braid
as it tarried after the storm
each drop hewn a different path
to the muddy sunken shrine

once held in lofty esteem the buried
mortar shell now would nought
release its awful power - to that extent
all seemed peaceful - and yet in dreams
as his emotions slowly ripened and
his nerves were strung taught it was
the veteran who’d be more likely to explode...

JulesPaige/davh June 2, 2012 Process notes: These words started in one direction and then took on another life... We may not approve of war, but at least I think we should respect those who serve to keep our freedoms. Healing thought to all those who still may get nightmares - And tons of come home safe thoughts for our relative now in harm's’ way...again.

Monday Melting #19 Collom Lune Series

Collom Lune Series
Aurelia relentless nerves
Reflecting the silver moons light
Narrow abstract letters....

Writing on waves
Thrusting novels into the sea
Omniscient of lore

Quizzes ocean life
Collapsing its  portable classroom glides -
Onto another lecture

Never weary spirit
Ever chronic, perhaps manic teacher
Designs portable lessons

Moon Jelly life
Shorter than most, rides currents
seeking suitable students
